My parents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past weekend… The golden one. Surrounded by family and friends, they reminisced about their wedding day half a century ago. As I watched them, it made me wonder how you are able to love one person for so long. Before I got married, people would always tell me that marriage was hard work, that no one is perfect and sometimes you will be disappointed. What I’ve learned is that falling is love is easy, staying in love – now that’s the challenge.
Over the years, in between the highs and the lows, the most important thing my parents have shown me is that a great marriage is a true partnership. Respect, compassion, understanding, patience, compromise, empathy, and laughter are no doubt the key ingredients to making a marriage work! Oh… And that my mother is always right!
