Ellie & Niko’s Outfit – Zara
Before the end of summer, the family and I got all dressed up and headed out for some family pictures with Manifesto Photography. I couldn’t be more thrilled with how they turned out! This has become an annual thing for us and I love looking back each year to see how much we’ve grown as a family. I know from experience that outfit planning for pictures can often times be stressful. Whether it be for engagement, maternity, or family portraits – the investment you make to capture these once in a lifetime moments is huge and I thought I would provide some tips on how to help you and everyone look their best!
Coordinate colors. This may seem like an obvious one, but the colors of everyone’s outfit should definitely compliment one another. Neutral colors with soft, flowing fabrics like creams, soft pastels, oatmeals, light browns, tans, and grays blend best. Sticking with these basic colors are sure to keep your family photos looking classic and timeless.
Vary textures. With everyone dressed in similar colors, a great way to add depth and interest is to incorporate a variety of textures. I chose to use flowing lace, crisp linen, leather shoes and breezy cotton in our pictures. The fabrics also help to showcase the season and give our pictures an airy, summertime feel.
Compliment your surroundings. After booking our session, Manifesto Photography sent me a list of possible locations for our photoshoot. Knowing that our location would be filled with beautiful gardens and a vineyard – I incorporated floral finishes in both mine and Ellie’s dresses to compliment the location while staying with a natural palette.
